John Rey Tiangco wins as Navotas mayor anew

MANILA, Philippines — Lone district of Navotas Rep. John Rey Tiangco, who previously served a three-year term for mayor, was elected anew as the local chief executive of the Fishing Capital of the Philippines.
This, after Tiangco garnered 77,571 votes, defeating contender RC Cruz who only got 42,804 votes, according to the Commission on Elections’s (Comelec) partial and unofficial election returns as of Wednesday, 5:32 am, with 95 percent of election returns counted.
He will succeed his brother, incumbent mayor Toby Tiangco.
“Thank you so much for your trust and support that you have given me,” Tiangco said in a statement on Tuesday. “I hope we unite and cooperate to fulfil our ambition to improve the living standards of our city.”
Tiangco previously served as a three-term mayor of Navotas from 2010 to 2019.
Article continues after this advertisementIncumbent mayor, Toby, on the other hand, led the congressional race after getting 76,222 votes, edging Gardy Cruz who tallied 44,745 votes, according to the Comelec’s partial and unofficial election returns as of Wednesday, 5:32 am.
