BACOLOD CITY—The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has approved a petition for a wage hike in Western Visayas. Labor regional director Sixto Rodriguez Jr. said Friday, May 13, that the  National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) would review the wage increase in the region before it becomes final. The wage increase ranges from P55 to P110 for workers in Western Visayas. Rodriguez said the RTWPB increased the wages of “kasambahay” (domestic help) from P4,000 to P4,500 a month. Employees in private establishments with 10 workers and below will get a daily salary of P420 from the current P310. Those employing more than 10 workers shall pay their employees P450 from P395 every day. Agricultural workers will also get P410 from P315. The last wage hike in Western Visayas was in November 2019. Rodriguez said all the RTPWB members signed the new wage orders that would take effect after they are reviewed and approved by the NWPC and printed in a newspaper of general circulation. “So it is likely to take effect on or before June 12,” said Rodriguez, who  revealed that the original demand by labor sectors was for a daily minimum wage of P750.
