Duterte signs laws creating cultural centers, museums in Kalinga, CDO, Biliran

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law three measures seeking to establish cultural centers and museums in Kalinga, Cagayan de Oro, and Biliran.

Duterte signed the new laws on May 24, and copies of the documents were given to the media on Wednesday.

Specifically, the President signed Republic Act No. 11770 or An Act Establishing the Kalinga Cultural Center and Museum in the Province of Kalinga; Republic Act No. 11771 or An Act Establishing the Cagayan de Oro City Cultural Center and Museum in the Province of Misamis Oriental; and Republic Act No. 11772 or An Act Establishing the Biliran Cultural Center and Museum in the Province of Biliran.

The cultural centers and museums “shall serve as the institutional medium for the protection, preservation, presentation and promotion of the cultural, artistic, archaeological, social, historical, religious and philosophical heritage” of the said city and provinces, according to the newly-approved laws.

The establishment of cultural centers and museums in Kalinga, Cagayan de Oro, and Biliran will be in collaboration between the city/provincial government and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the laws also noted.
