MMDA warns personnel on use of unregistered vehicles, no license plates

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday issued a memorandum warning its personnel against the use of unregistered vehicles and those without license plates.

MANILA, Philippines —  The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday issued a memorandum warning its personnel against the use of unregistered vehicles and those without license plates.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes issued this memorandum in response to the viral Facebook post of Riders’ Safety Advocates of the Philippines (RSAP), which showed an MMDA traffic enforcer driving a motorcycle without a license plate and turned out to be unregistered.

The MMDA personnel was spotted along the northbound lane of EDSA-Boni on Monday, May 30.

“The MMDA is mandated to strictly implement traffic rules and regulations. Hence, we should lead by example,” Artes said in a statement.

Artes said that he had already ordered Atty. Victor Maria Nuñez, director for enforcement of the MMDA Traffic Discipline Office (TDO), to penalize the reported personnel, who was later identified as Wilfredo Ordoña.

Artes ordered the TDO to issue traffic citation tickets for the violations of Ordoña, who is also currently assigned to the TDO Parking Management Team.

Artes then reminded all employees to refrain from engaging in any unlawful activity.

“Violators will not only be issued the corresponding citation ticket but could also face administrative sanctions such as suspension and outright dismissal for the contract of service personnel,” Artes stressed.

“If proven guilty, we will file the necessary administrative charges, whether permanent, casual or on job order status, subject to applicable rules and regulations,” he added.
