Cebu City grants cash incentives to 4 top board passers

CEBU CITY—Four Cebu City residents who made it to the Top 10 in their respective professional licensure examinations are set to get cash incentives from the local government.

The city council on Wednesday approved separate resolutions authored by Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros to grant cash incentives to the four topnotchers from various universities and colleges for bringing pride to the city through their exemplary performance in their respective licensure tests.

John Frederick Tabañag, who placed first in the 2022 Respiratory Therapist Licensure Examination, is set to get a cash incentive of P50,000. Tabañag, a resident of Barangay Mambaling, got a rating of 89.25 percent in the results released last February.

Roxanne Eve Cesa Tuason, a resident of Barangay Pit-os, will receive P15,000 for placing 10th in the same Respiratory Therapist Licensure Examination.

Both Tabañag and Tuason are graduates of Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU).

Jomari Peña Macalinao, who ranked seventh in the 2022 Master Plumber Licensure Examination, the result of which was released also in February, is also set to receive P15,000.

Macalinao, of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U), is from Barangay Quiot.

Matthew Niño Go Dy, a graduate of the University of San Carlos (USC), will also receive P15,000 after placing eighth in the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination in November 2021. Dy is a resident of Barangay T. Padilla.

According to Hontiveros’ resolution, the Office of the City Treasury already issued the necessary Certificate of Availability of Funds for the topnotchers’ incentive.

The city council also commended CDU, CIT-U and the USC for producing top-quality graduates and bringing pride to the city.

The monetary incentives to those who made it to the Top 10 in licensure examinations is based on an existing city ordinance.

Cebu City residents will get a financial incentive of P100,000 for those who topped the physician and bar exams; P50,000 for those who placed second to fifth; and P20,000 for those who placed sixth to tenth.

For other licensure exams given by the Professional Regulation Commission, the topnotcher will get P50,000; second to fifth placers, P25,000; and other Top 10 finishers, P15,000. — NESTLE SEMILLA
