LUCENA CITY—A 66-year-old retired policeman was shot dead on Sunday, June 19, after he tried to pacify a drunken laborer who went berserk in the island town of Burdeos in Quezon province.

The Quezon police said in a report Monday that Arcel Azores, 40, was creating trouble around 7:30 p.m. and pointing his handgun at a resident in Barangay Amot.
