More Quezon towns log active COVID-19 cases

LUCENA CITY  — At least seven municipalities in the province of Quezon have registered active COVID-19 cases as of Sunday, according to provincial health authorities.

The latest data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed that the current 14 active COVID-19 infections in the province were recorded in Tayabas City with five cases; two each in Lucena City, San Antonio and Pagbilao towns; and one each in Catanauan, Sampaloc, and Tiaong towns.

On June 3, only Lucena City, the capital of Quezon, was the only locality in the province with active COVID-19 cases. The city had two recorded infected residents then.

The IPHO did not provide information on the COVID-19 variants of the active cases in the province.

Quezon has logged 33 new COVID-19 cases, 23 recoveries, and no deaths this month.

In May, the new COVID-19 cases in the province dropped to 14 from 21 in April, 88 in March, and 772 in February.

As of Sunday, Quezon has recorded 32,908 COVID-19 cases, 31,334 recoveries, and 1,560 deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases placed Lucena, classified as a highly urbanized city in Quezon, and the towns of Atimonan, Candelaria, Dolores, Lucban, Mauban, Pagbilao, Plaridel, Polillo, Quezon, Sampaloc, San Antonio, Tiaong, Unisan, and Tayabas City under alert level 1, the most lenient in the five-tier alert status, until June 30.

The rest of Quezon’s 26 localities will remain under alert level 2. INQ
