MANILA, Philippines — At least 4,634 COVID-19 infections were recorded across the country from June 20 to 26, data the Department of Health (DOH) shared on Monday showed.

This means an average of 662 new infections per day was recorded the previous week, which DOH said was an increase of 53 percent compared to the week prior.

Of the new cases, 14 are either in severe or critical condition. Also, 51 more deaths were verified by DOH, pushing the death toll to past 60,500.

However, DOH clarified that none of the deaths occurred between June 13 and 19.

The weekly tally of 4,634 new infections is way higher than recorded from June 13 to 19, which DOH said was at 3,051.

These 3,051 new infections from June 13 to 19 were already an 82 percent jump from the numbers obtained from June 6 to 12.

Despite the increase in numbers, bed utilization at non-intensive care unit (ICU) facilities remains low at 18.1 percent, or 4,034 out of 22,251 beds. ICU bed utilization is at 14.9 percent, or 391 out of 2,628 ICU beds.

DOH, however, continues to remind the public to exercise caution and observe minimum public health protocols like wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing to counter the quick rise in infections.
