MANILA, Philippines 鈥 Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri took his oath of office on Thursday before Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo at the National Museum in Manila.

Zubiri鈥檚 oath taking happened on the same day that President Ferdinand 鈥淏ongbong鈥 Marcos Jr. was inaugurated, also at the National Museum, and with Gesmundo.

鈥淭oday, I took the opportunity to take my oath as well after the historic oathtaking of our dear President BBM,鈥 Zubiri said in a statement, referring to Marcos鈥 preferred acronym.

The re-electionist senator had his oath taken in front of an art piece that showed national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.

鈥淏ilang isang lingkod-bayan, gabay ko po palagi si Dr. Jose Rizal, para sa kanyang tapang, talino, at pagmamahal sa bayan,鈥 he said.

(As a public servant, my guide is Dr. Jose Rizal because of his courage, intelligence, and love for the nation.)

Aside from Zubiri鈥檚 wife Audrey, Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Senators Sherwin Gatchalian, Ronald dela Rosa, and Sonny Angara, and senators-elect Raffy Tulfo and JV Ejercito witnessed the event.
