DOH logs 27,331 COVID-19 infections in 1st week of August

The Department of Health (DOH) registered 27,331 infections of COVID-19 from August 1 to 7, higher than the previous week’s 24,100.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) registered 27,331 infections of COVID-19 from August 1 to 7, higher than the previous week’s 24,100.

According to the DOH, based on its weekly-released data, this translated to a daily average of 3,904 — 13 percent higher than the previous week’s, which was at 3,443.

Only 76 or 0.32 percent of the total cases were tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 772.

Meanwhile, 88 deaths were added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll — eight occurred in August, 24 in July, five in March, seven in February, and another four in January.

The rest were backlogs from last year, from March 2021 to October 2021.

The data also showed that the non-ICU-bed utilization rate increased from 29.5 percent to 30.9 percent, while the ICU-bed utilization rate increased from 23.3 percent to 24.8 percent.

As to the vaccination progress, fully-vaccinated individuals are now at 71,898,721 (92.06 percent of the target population) after 198,109 additional individuals were vaccinated in the past week.

On the other hand, individuals with booster shots now total 16,603,097 after 387,631 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.

Based on the on its website, as of August 7, active COVID-19 infections nationwide currently number 37,805.
