Central Luzon logs 18,500 dengue cases in 7 months

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga—The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded at least 18,557 dengue cases in Central Luzon in the past seven months.

The latest DOH-Central Luzon Center for Health Development 3 (CLCHD3) data showed that the dengue cases from January 1 to July 23 this year were 55 percent higher than the 11,993 cases recorded during the same period in 2021.

The data sent Thursday to the Inquirer by the CLCHD3 officer-in-charge Corazon Flores showed that the dengue cases in Central Luzon reached the epidemic threshold since last April.

Bulacan registered the highest number of dengue cases at 8,434, which is 298 percent higher than the only 2,120 cases from January. 1 to July 23 last year.

Nueva Ecija was second with 3,522 cases — 81 percent higher than last year’s 1,942 cases.

Pampanga, which had 2,344 dengue cases, ranked third. But its cases this year were lower by 27 percent than the 3,224 cases during the same period of 2021.

Zambales had 1,502 cases, which were 28 percent higher than last Lu year’s 1,178 cases; Tarlac had 1,290 (54 percent lower than the 2,829 last year), and Bataan had 646 (1 percent lower than the 652 in 2021).

The Aurora province registered 819 cases, or 1,606 percent higher than its 48 cases in the first seven months of 2021.tral

The CLCHD3’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit recorded 39 deaths due to dengue in Central Luzon from January 1 to July 23 this year. INQ
