COVID-19 active cases in PH top 40,000 as 4,661 more contract disease – DOH
MANILA, Philippines — More than 40,000 people in the country are now sick due to COVID-19, based on the latest data in the Department of Health’s (DOH) coronavirus tracker.
It also showed that an additional 4,661 contracted the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, pushing the nationwide tally to 3,823,084 since the pandemic hit the Philippines in 2020.
According to the DOH, the country’s 40,315 current active cases account for 1.07 percent of the total cases, and 3,721,825 patients, or 97.32 percent, have already recovered from the illness.
The COVID-19 death toll, however, reached 60,944, which accounts for 1.61 percent of the total cases, as of Friday, as the DOH recorded 28 more fatalities due to the coronavirus.
On Thursday, the country’s COVID-19 active cases were at 37,962.
Article continues after this advertisementIn a Twitter post, Octa Research fellow Guido David said the 4,661 new COVID-19 cases are higher than their forecast of 4,500 cases.

Citing the DOH’s data, David said the current positivity rate nationwide is at 18.4 percent, which is more than thrice the World Health Organization’s benchmark of five percent.
