Daily average of new COVID-19 cases now almost 4,000 — Vergeire
MANILA, Philippines — The number of new COVID-19 cases in the country is now averaging almost 4,000 cases per day, officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire reported on Monday.
From August 3 to August 9, daily reported infections averaged 3,993. The figure is 12 percent more than the previous week’s average.
“Nationally, [COVID-19] cases continue to increase, now averaging at 3,993 cases per day in the recent week,” she said during the Senate committee hearing on health and demography.
“Note that the seven-day moving average is almost twice the cases we reported less than a month ago at 2,258 cases per day,” she added.
Despite the growth in infections, the Philippines remains low risk for COVID-19, said Vergeire.
To date, the country has 3,831,941 COVID-19 cases. Of which, 40,016 are active.
