LUCENA CITY—A tricycle driver died Monday after being hit by a jeepney in Tanay town in Rizal province.

The Police Regional Office 4-A said in a report Tuesday, August 16, that Virgilio Duran was driving his jeepney along M.H. Del Pilar St. in Barangay Plaza Aldea at 7:33 a.m. when his vehicle crashed into a motorcycle driven by Abner Fercol.

Fercol suffered grave injuries and was taken to Tanay General Hospital, but he expired on the way.

The police said the jeepney also hit three parked motorcycles on the roadside and four other pedestrians who suffered injuries.

The police report said Duran fell asleep while driving, causing the accident.

The jeepney driver was placed in police custody while charges are being prepared against him.
