No casualties in Cagayan due to ‘Florita’ — PDRRMO

MANILA, Philippines — There were no reported casualties in Cagayan after the province was battered by Severe Tropical Storm Florita, its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) disclosed Wednesday.

While there were no casualties in their province, Ruelie Rapsing from Cagayan’s PDRRMO said there were three reported minor injuries due to fallen trees.

“Zero casualty tayo sa Severe Tropical Storm Florita, although we have reported three minor injuries due to fallen branches ng trees,” Rapsing said during the Laging Handa briefing.

“May nasugatan, may nagalos (Some were wounded and scratched). But no serious injuries,” he added.

Several areas in Cagayan were earlier placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 due to Florita.

As of Wednesday, 5 a.m., only the western portion of mainland Cagayan is under Signal No. 1.

Due to the storm, several areas in the province experienced power interruptions, but electricity was restored hours later, said Rapsing.

Rapsing added that nine bridges and roads are unpassable.

“These are secondary barangay roads lang. Yung national highways natin dito ay nadadaanan (These are secondary village roads. Our national highways here are passable),” Rapsing said.

As of 5 a.m., the center of Florita’s eye was located 335 kilometers west of Calayan, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 115 km/h.
