2 dead in Quezon road accidents

LUCENA CITY – A jeepney passenger and a motorcyclist died in separate road accidents in Quezon province on Saturday.

The Quezon police on Sunday reported that Wilfredo Silva, while driving a passenger jeepney, hit a motorcycle driven by Luisitio Mendoza along the national road in Barangay (village) Lutucan Malabag at around 7:30 p.m.

Witnesses said that the jeepney later crashed into a truck parked at the roadside. Silva and his passenger, Paterio Calabia, 54, both sustained injuries.

They were taken to Candelaria United Doctors Hospital in neighboring Candelaria town but Calabia died along the way due to head injuries.

Mendoza, who was not wearing a crash helmet, also suffered an injury and was brought to another hospital.

Investigators found out that Mendoza was driving under the influence of liquor.

In Candelaria town, two motorcycles collided head-on along the national road in Barangay Sta. Catalina Sur at around 11:40 p.m.

Both motorcycle drivers, Raven Hernandez, Angelito Dimalibot and his back-rider, Zaeron Gutierrez, sustained injuries and were brought to separate medical facilities.

Hernandez, however, expired on the way to the hospital due to severe head and body injuries, the local police said.
