Baby contracts COVID-19 in Olongapo; 2 deaths logged in Zambales

OLONGAPO CITY—A 6-month-old girl here had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and was the lone new patient in this city on Tuesday (Aug. 30), according to the local task force.
The young patient, a resident of Barangay East Bajac-Bajac, showed symptoms of the viral disease, the task force said.
Despite this, the number of active infections in this city dropped to 27 on Tuesday from 29 on Monday after three more patients were cleared of the viral disease.
Data showed that the city has registered 7,354 COVID-19 cases since 2020. Of this figure, 6,971 have recovered while 356 have died.
In nearby Zambales province, two more virus-infected patients died from the disease on Tuesday, bringing to 711 the COVID-19-related deaths.
According to the provincial health office, four new COVID-19 cases were added to its tally.
A total of 12, 268 COVID-19 cases have been logged in the province since 2020. At least 11,514 of these were already tagged as recoveries.
