10 job order workers test positive for illegal drugs in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY — Ten job order employees of the Victorias City government in Negros Occidental tested positive for illegal drugs in surprise tests since Tuesday this week.

Mayor Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez on Thursday, September 1, said nine of these workers were found positive for the use of methamphetamine or shabu, while one was using marijuana.

The contracts of these job order employees will not be renewed on September 30.

“Those who tested positive will be given the option to undergo detoxification and rehabilitation at the Negros Occidental Drug Rehabilitation Center in Victorias,” Benitez  said.

“If the rehabilitation center says they are doing good, they may be reconsidered for rehiring (soon),” he added.

Benitez hoped to clean the city government from illegal activities, including using illegal drugs.

“We don’t tolerate the use of dangerous drugs in government offices. We want to ensure a drug-free workplace,” he said.
