Comelec approves early retirement of James Jimenez

Comelec exec: 2022 polls voter turnout highest for automated elections in PH history

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Election (Comelec) en banc has approved the early retirement of James Jimenez, its longtime spokesperson and director of the education and information department.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia on Saturday announced that the Commission En Banc approved Jimenez’s request for retirement during its regular meeting last August 31.

“This effectively grants Dir. Jimenez’ intent to avail of the optional retirement,” Garcia said.

Jimenez’ retirement as Director IV of the Education and Information Department (EID) will be effective on September 15, 2022.

“The whole Comelec family expresses its gratitude and appreciation to Dir. Jimenez for his long exemplary service to the Nation through the Commission,” Garcia said.

“We wish him all the best as he embarks on this new chapter in his life,” Garcia added.

Garcia said they are still looking for his possible replacement as EID director.

Jimenez was the longest serving spokesperson of any government institution in the country, as he had been the Comelec spokesperson from 2007 until 2022.

Jimenez was relieved from his post following the presidential and vice presidential town hall debate fiasco.
