DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental — After a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Negros Oriental will again hold its annual Buglasan Festival this October.

Negros Oriental Governor Pryde Henry Teves vowed to allocate about P14 million for the weeklong celebration, which starts on October 23 and ends on October 30.

Each participating local government for the street dancing category will get P250,000.

Another P2 million will be divided among the 20 local governments that will join the booth competitions.

The Buglasan Booth Fair will showcase tourist attractions, products, and famous delicacies of every local government.

Unlike the former Buglasan activities held at the Dumaguete Freedom Park fronting the provincial capitol, this year’s festivities will be at the Dumaguete City Pantawan at the Rizal Boulevard Area.

In a press statement, Teves announced that he didn’t want to risk celebrating the Buglasan Festival at the Freedom Park, which is being restored.

Teves said the park has also become a “swimming pool” whenever there is a heavy downpour.

‘’It is indeed an opportune time that [Dumaguete City] Mayor Ipe Remollo took cognizance of the province’s efforts to join hands with the city government to serve our people well,’’ Teves said.

Buglasan Festival has been one of the most awaited festivals in Negros Oriental. It is celebrated annually in Dumaguete City, the provincial capital, in the middle of October.

After a week-long celebration, the festival usually ends with a civic parade and a two-night fireworks display.
