MANILA, Philippines – Two to four tropical cyclones may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this October, according to the
Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estreja explained that the forecast is based on data on the number of tropical cyclones from 1948 to 2017.
“For this month of October 2022, dalawa hanggang apat na bagyo ang posibleng pumasok sa ating Philippine area of responsibility, at ang susunod na mga pangalan ay Maymay, Neneng, Obet, at Paeng,” said Estreja.
(For October 2022, two to four tropical cyclones may enter the Philippine area of responsibility, and they will have the local names Maymay, Neneng, Obet, and Paeng).
These would be the 13th to 16th tropical cyclones this year, he added.
Estreja likewise pointed out that while some tropical cyclones from the Pacific Ocean enter PAR and recurve back into the ocean, the others make landfall.
“Pero may mga instances po na ang bagyo dito sa may silangan ng Southern Luzon and even Visayas, ay nagla-landfall or kumikilos pa west northwest patungo sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon and even Samar provinces,” Estreja said.
(There are instances that the tropical cyclone east of Southern Luzon and even Visayas will make landfall, or move west-northwest towards Luzon and even Samar provinces).
“Kaya pinag-iingat po namin ang mga kababayan natin this month, dahil mataas ang tsansa na magla-landfall ang mga bagyo sa mga nabanggit na lugar,” Estreja added.
(The tropical cyclones this month are more likely to make landfall, residents in affected areas must take extra precautions.)
