Quezon province prepares for Tropical Depression Maymay

Quezon braces for Super Typhoon Karding

LUCENA CITY — With the widespread devastation left by supertyphoon Karding (international name: Noru) in northern Quezon last month, the provincial government has tasked its disaster management office to prepare for the incoming tropical depression Maymay.

The provincial government of Quezon, in a post on its Facebook page Tuesday, Oct. 11, said Gov. Angelina Tan had ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) to step up its readiness and monitoring in anticipation of Maymay’s entry into the province.

The PDRRMC immediately initiated an online meeting participated by local chief executives, local disaster management offices, and other concerned government agencies for the necessary precautions and safety measures.

During the onslaught of Karding, 20,986 families composed of 80,675 individuals in northern Quezon were displaced.

An estimated 12,389 houses in the area were also destroyed and damaged.

At least P247.8 million worth of agriculture was also destroyed.

The 11 a.m. weather bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said Maymay was last located 285 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, carrying with it winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour and gustiness of 55 kph.

The state weather bureau hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind (TCWS) Signal No. 1 in areas along Maymay’s path, including the towns of General Nakar and Infanta, and the Polillo group of islands in the northern part of Quezon.
