‘Frustrated scientist’ Bongbong Marcos cites benefits of science and technology

MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday cited the importance of science and technology to the youth and the economy and admitted that he wanted to pursue a career in science and not in politics but his late father and namesake had dissuaded him.

In his keynote speech at the opening of 8th Annual Balik Scientist Convention, Marcos called himself a “frustrated scientist.”

“I am a frustrated scientist. All my scholastic career was spent in science and it was only towards the end that it was explained to me by my father that ‘mahirap ‘yung science, hindi ka yayaman diyan’,’  the President recalled.

“Boy, if he were alive now, I would likely introduce him to Elon Musk, I’d like to introduce him to Bezos, I’d like to introduce him to Microsoft, to Apple,” he added.

Marcos said he feels “very strongly” about the scientific field, knowing the advantages that science and technical training could bring, especially to the students, who can also contribute to the economy.
