MANILA, Philippines — More affordable sugar will soon be sold in offices of the (SRA) in Quezon City and Bacolod City, according to the (DA).

These will be sold at P70 per kilogram, way below the retail price of refined sugar ranging from P70 to P134 per kg in supermarkets and between P98 and P110 per kg in public wet markets, based on the SRA’s price monitoring as of Oct. 7.

The lower-priced sweetener, which is not for resale, will also be available in Kadiwa rolling stores and Kadiwa on Wheels “to make sugar affordable and accessible to consumers,” the DA said in a statement.

According to the SRA, the move is a “temporary measure” while waiting for sugar mill operations to go into full swing.

“The local supply has been augmented by the volume imported under Sugar Order (SO) 2 through the efforts of the private importers,” it said.
