Paeng maintains strength as it moves away from PH; Signal No.1 still up in some areas

Paeng to exit PAR

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) maintained its strength as it moved west southwestward away from the country over the West Philippine Sea, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to Pagasa in its latest typhoon bulletin, Paeng was last located 295 kilometers west northwest of Iba, Zambales, carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

Pagasa said Paeng is forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Monday morning or afternoon.

At present, Pagasa said Paeng is still expected to bring moderate to heavy rain over Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Pangasinan, Batanes, and the northern portion of Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rain is forecast over Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), the Western Visayas, and the rest of Cagayan and Central Luzon.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2, on the other hand, has been lifted in some areas, but TCWS No. 1 (strong winds prevailing or expected within the next 36 hours) is still hoisted over the following areas / provinces:
