Queenie may weaken into tropical depression Tuesday

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical storm Queenie may weaken into a tropical depression on Tuesday before it could turn to a low pressure area, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

“It may weaken into a tropical depression today due to increasingly unfavorable conditions. Further weakening into a low pressure area is likely by Thursday, possibly earlier,” Pagasa said on its latest advisory.

Queenie is currently located 490 kilometers east of Davao City, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of 80 kph, according to Pagasa.

Despite the projected decline of Queenie, several areas will still experience rain fall.

On Tuesday until Wednesday, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands are expected to experience moderate to heavy rains, while Eastern Visayas, Davao Oriental, and the rest of the Caraga Region will have light to moderate with at times heavy rains.

On Thursday, light to moderate with at times heavy rains are still possible over Caraga Region, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas and Bicol Region.
