MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Thursday said it has filed smuggling complaints against 33 importers of agricultural products.
Of the 33 cases, 22 were filed for violation of Republic Act. No.10845, or the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016, the BOC said in a statement.
The BOC added that it also filed complaints against 11 customs brokers for the unlawful importation of agricultural products.
The subject of the cases filed by the BOC has a total dutiable value of P251.61 million with duties, taxes, and fees amounting to P107.19 million.
Some lawmakers earlier called for harsher penalties against smugglers of agricultural products.
