Motorcycle rider killed in Quezon City freak accident

MANILA, Philippines — A motorcycle rider was killed in Quezon City on Saturday after a cargo truck rammed and ran over him, the Quezon City Police District said.

The motorcycle rider was identified as Dexter Cortez, 42, who was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect was also identified as Rolano Llarena, 59.

The said cargo truck was being towed by a forklift driven by Llarena, who was trying to do a right turn along Broadway Avenue from Aurora Boulevard.

However, the tow bar suddenly detached, causing the cargo truck to move backward.

Cortez’s motorcycle, then, was hit by the rear portion of the cargo truck.

Because of the impact,  Cortez fell into the pavement and was run over by the right rear wheel of the same cargo truck.

The said cargo truck continued its momentum, ramming four more vehicles in the process.

Llarena is now in police custody and is expected to face charges after the completion of evidence.
