MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5 earthquake rocked the waters near Surigao Del Sur on Sunday just past noon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The epicenter of the quake was located 30 kilometers northeast of Cortes, Surigao Del Sur.
Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and was recorded at exactly 12:43 p.m. with a depth of focus of 61 kilometers.
Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
- Intensity II – Tandag, Surigao del Sur
- Intensity I – Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte;
No damage was caused by the quake, said Phivolcs, but aftershocks should be expected.
