Two people were hurt after being hit with a stray bullet in Abra in the wake of New Year celebration, a police official said Sunday.

MANILA, Philippines — Two people were hurt after being hit with a stray bullet in Abra in the wake of New Year celebration, a police official said Sunday.

Police Regional Deputy Regional Director for Operations PCol. Ronald Gayo has not yet provided further details, but he said authorities are given 72 hours to identify the people who fired a gun.

“It is very unfortunate that we have recorded two cases, two victims of stray bullets, and it happened in the province of Abra,” Gayo said in Filipino during a press conference of the Department of Health in Baguio City.

“It is the directive of Brigadier General [Mafelino] Bazar that within 72 hours, the people behind this incident, which caused damages against these two people, would be identified,” he added.

As of Sunday, the number of victims of fireworks-related injuries are now at 137, according to DOH.
