Over 1,000 people displaced by floods in Aurora, Bulacan still in evacuation centers

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—Some 398 families or 1,265 persons displaced by floods caused by a shear line and northeast monsoon rains in Aurora and Bulacan provinces are still in 14 evacuation centers as of Saturday, Jan. 7, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in Central Luzon reported.

The agency said in a statement Saturday that the 98 families (340 persons) in San Luis, Maria Aurora, Baler, Dinalungan and Dilasag, all in Aurora province, are still housed in 12 evacuation centers as of 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile, evacuees in two centers in Angat and Norzagaray towns in Bulacan totalled 300 families (925 persons).

The Angat, Bustos and Ipo dams in Bulacan have opened their gates as normal water high level exceeded their respective “normal water high level” as of 5 a.m. on Saturday, the RDRRMC said.

Actual floods, as well as threats of floods and landslides, affected 2,586 families (9,932 persons) in the two provinces since Thursday, Jan. 5, the RDRRMC said.
