MANILA, Philippines — The (LTO) is getting deeper into its investigation of a multiple-vehicle crash last Jan. 10 at the corner of Shaw Boulevard and San Miguel Avenue in Barangay Wack Wack, Mandaluyong.
The LTO previously issued a show-cause order against the driver and the passenger of the Toyota Land Cruiser that caused the incident. Both were summoned as it remained unclear who exactly had been driving.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the LTO said that the father of one of the suspected drivers had already presented himself to its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID). The father surrendered his 19-year-old son’s license.
The suspected driver’s father then vehemently denied that it was his son who was driving the said vehicle, according to the LTO.
Meanwhile, the other suspected driver, failed to appear before the IID as he was still under the custody of the Mandaluyong City Police Station.
The officer-in-charge of the IID, Renan Melitante, admitted that no conclusion had been reached as the other suspect still had to give his side of the incident.
But Melitante said whoever was driving would be charged with reckless driving.
Another hearing on the incident has been set for Jan. 30 at the LTO Central Office.
“This incident is one of the serious reasons why the LTO would not allow shortcuts in obtaining a driver’s license. They must go through the right process to be sure to be eligible to be granted a license because human lives are at stake,” LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade said in Filipino.
The multiple-vehicle crash left 13 motorists and passengers hurt and a total of 12 vehicles damaged.
