BI relieves 2 personnel over alleged ties to human trafficking ring

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday said it relieved two personnel due to suspected ties to human trafficking syndicates.
According to BI statement, the personnel were discovered engaging in trafficking activities at the Clark International Airport (CIA) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia).
“We have received information that the two have links to trafficking syndicates,” Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco through an order signed Jan. 17.
“We are initiating an investigation to verify this information, and if there is indeed probable cause, we shall file the appropriate case before the Department of Justice (DOJ),” he added.
Due to this, Tansingco relieved both personnel from their post as a preventive measure and was temporarily assigned to back-end office duties while the investigation was ongoing.
Article continues after this advertisement“While imposing penalties would be subject to the resolution of possible cases against them, we are relieving them from frontline duty to ensure unbiased investigation,” shared Tansingco.
He then warned employees not to be involved in illegal activities, or they will face administrative cases, suspension, or even dismissal.
