Motorcyclist dead, back-rider hurt after hitting electric post in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A motorcyclist died and his back-rider was injured Sunday, Jan. 29, after their vehicle hit an electric post along the Maharlika Highway in Tiaong town in Quezon province.

Carlos Mission, 52, was driving his motorcycle with Glenn Balignasay, 39, as his back-rider when they hit the electric post along the side of the highway in Barangay (village) Talisay around 2:15 a.m., the Quezon police said in a report.

Both riders were thrown from their vehicle and landed on the pavement. Mission died instantly due to head and body injuries while Balignasay was taken to the nearest hospital.

The investigators, citing information from Balignasay, said Mission suddenly lost control of the motorcycle while avoiding a vehicle running ahead, resulting in the accident.

The police said they found no driver’s license from Mission.

The report did not state whether or not the fatality was wearing a crash helmet, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
