DOH logs 36% less COVID infections from Jan. 23 to 29 at 1,206 cases

DOH SEES VAX CHALLENGE IF CALAMITY STATE LIFTED

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) registered 1,206 infections of COVID-19 from Jan. 23 to 29, lower than the 1,891 cases recorded the previous week.

According to the DOH’s weekly report on Monday, the total infections translated to a daily average of 172, which is 36 percent lower than the recorded daily average the previous week, which was 270.

Only one, or 0.08 percent, of these cases, was tagged as severe or critical, bringing the active number of severe or critical cases to 456.

However, 74 deaths were added to the country’s COVID-19 death toll, at 65,767 as of Jan. 29, based on the COVID-19 tracker.

The DOH said six of these newly-added deaths occurred in the past two weeks, while the rest were backlogs recorded as early as September 2020.

Despite the fewer infections, the department said that the non-ICU utilization rate increased from 19.1 to 19.5 percent, while the ICU bed utilization rate decreased from 16.1 to 14 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of individuals fully vaccinated against COVID-19 sits at 73,834,420 (94.54 percent of target people), as 14,419 more received the shots last week.

Individuals with booster shots, on the other hand, now total 21,344,106 after 50,5474 additional individuals were inoculated in the same period.
