MANILA, Philippines — An explosion in a laundry shop that caused a brief fire near the De La Salle University in Malate, Manila, injuring several persons, including students, according to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO).

The explosion took place in a laundry shop on Fidel Reyes Street at around 7:00 p.m.

In a written in Filipino, the Manila DRRMO said: “Many were injured including students and it caused a fire that was immediately extinguished. The cause is still being investigated. It also assured the public that its medical team was deployed to provide assistance to the victims, some of which have been rushed to the nearest hospitals.”

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire caused by the explosion was declared extinguished by 7:34 p.m.

Ten total individuals, however, were injured.
