College student faces murder rap over killing of professor in Pangasinan

The body of a faculty member of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) was found floating in the Linoc River in Binmaley town, Pangasinan province on Thursday (Jan. 26), police said.

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The provincial police have filed a murder complaint against the suspect in the killing of a faculty member of Pangasinan State University (PSU) whose body was found floating on Jan. 26 in a river in Binmaley town.

In an interview on Monday, Jan. 30, Colonel Jeff Fanged, Pangasinan police provincial director, said suspect Jericho Tirao, 22, a college student at PSU, had been subjected to inquest proceedings at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Pangasinan’s capital town of Lingayen on Jan. 28.

Tirao had been tagged as the suspect in the killing of Mark Lagleva, an assistant professor, based on witnesses accounts.

Forensic examination showed that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds to his body. His feet, arms, and head were tied with a string. A rock was also found inside his shirt.

Police were still establishing the motive behind the killing but refused to provide details. INQ
