Warning shot from seaborne patrol kills fisherman in Bataan, say cops
LIMAY, Bataan — A warning shot that was supposedly fired by a seaborne patrolman to apprehend illegal fishers killed a boat captain here on Monday, February 6, authorities said.
A police report identified the fatality as Felicito Felonia, 56, skipper of the fishing boat “F/B Ara Adi.”
Felonia was rushed to a nearby medical clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival, investigators said.
The victim and 10 other fishermen were apprehended by seaborne patrol and “Bantay Dagat” for allegedly using prohibited fishing gear.
One of the seaborne patrolmen warned the illegal fishers by firing a shot, but when the boat made a quick turnaround to evade the lawmen, the boat captain was hit in the abdomen.
