SBMA sends humanitarian team to help victims of Turkey-Syria earthquake
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) on Wednesday (Feb. 8) deployed a humanitarian team to Turkey and Syria to help in the search-and-rescue efforts following the devastating earthquake that hit both countries.
In an advisory, the SBMA said the eight-man team from its Fire Department would assist with relief efforts following one of the deadliest earthquakes in recorded history.
As of Thursday, reports said the death toll from the 7.8-magnitude quake, which hit the two countries early Monday, had already reached more than 16,000, citing authorities there.
The number of fatalities was expected to increase as search-and-rescue teams raced against time to find victims under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
