Bohol provincial gov’t suspends work, classes due to continuous heavy rain

Work and classes were suspended in Bohol province due to incessant rains on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

TAGBILARAN CITY — Work and classes were suspended in Bohol province due to incessant rains on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

In a public advisory, Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado ordered the suspension of classes in all levels of public and private schools in the entire province.

In a separate memorandum, Vice Gov. Dionisio Victor Balite also ordered a province-wide work suspension.

“Relative to the red rainfall warning issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council over the province of Bohol, and for the interest of safety, work in all public institutions is hereby suspended today, February 14 (Tuesday), 2023,” said Balite.

“However, work in hospitals, and in offices performing emergency and disaster operations shall not be disrupted to ensure continuity of needed ground response and interventions,” he added.

Suspension of work in the private sector is at the discretion of company management.

Some local governments in Bohol suspended classes on Tuesday afternoon due to heavy rains.

Batuan Mayor Antonino Jumawid was among the first to issue a notice of suspension of all classes in all levels.

In Mabini, Mayor Ongie Grace Bernales-Lim also suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools.

In Panglao town, Mayor Boy Arcay also issued a similar notice to suspend classes at all levels.

Classes for daycare, elementary and secondary were also suspended in Tagbilaran City, according to Mayor Jane Yap.

“If you have concerns about evacuation and emergency response, you can coordinate with your barangay officials. Don’t get too close to the trees that might fall,” said Yap.

The heavy rains flooded several streets in the city. At Lamdagan Street, the water reached waist-deep.

Tagbilaran is the provincial capital where government offices, big schools, and banks are located.
