Angeles City LGU suspends in-person classes as transport strike looms

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — The city government suspended in-person classes at all levels in public and private schools from March 6 to 10 to avoid burdening students during the looming weeklong transport strike.
In a memorandum issued March 1, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said various groups had manifested their intention to join the strike to protest the public transport modernization program to be enforced on July 1.
“In anticipation of the potential halt in transportation and its subsequent effect on the commuting public, especially students attending their classes, it is necessary to suspend [in-person] classes during the nationwide transport strike,” he said.
Lazatin encouraged schools to conduct modular or online classes during the period.
The city government will deploy 10 buses to provide free rides to commuting workers during the strike.
Article continues after this advertisement“The free ride will begin on March 6, 2023, from 5 a.m. to midnight, following five routes of 10 deployed Philippine Rabbit buses along the Cutud-Sapang Maisac boundary, Balibago-Dau boundary, Cutcut-Porac boundary, Sto. Domingo-San Fernando boundary, and Mining-Malino boundary,” it said in a statement. INQ
