Pagasa says cool climate in Luzon to persist, cloudy skies and rain also possible

MANILA, Philippines —  Big part of Luzon will still experience a cool climate as the northeast monsoon, which is locally known as “amihan,” continues to influence weather in the region, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) further said in its latest forecast that chances of rain, as well as cloudy skies, are likewise possible across the country as part of the northeast monsoon’s dominance.

“Generally, possible pa din ‘yung isolated o mga pulo-pulong pag-ulan o pagkulog,” said Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina.

Specifically, the state weather service said Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Western Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of light rains while Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

“Northeast monsoon o hanging amihan ang umiiral sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon, at possibleng magdala pa din dito ng malalamig na panahon,” Badrina also said.

As for the range of temperatures in key areas nationwide, Pagasa issued the following:

Luzon

  • Metro Manila: 20 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay City: 19 to 29 degrees Celcius
  • Baguio City: 12 to 23 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City: 19 to 31 degrees Celcius
  • Legazpi City: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tugegarao City: 19 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 24 to 31 degrees Celsius

Visayas

  • Cebu: 25 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban: 24 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius

Mindanao

  • Zamboanga City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan de Oro: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Gale warning

Pagasa likewise warned fisherfolks using small boats against sailing because of the effects of the northeast monsoon on the country’s coasts. It cautioned larger sea vessels of big waves.

It said that at least 10 seaboards may expect rough to very rough sea conditions as waves from 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters are likely in these areas.

Particularly, Pagasa raised a gale warning over:

  • Batanes
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Cagayan Including Babuyan Islands
  • Camarines Norte
  • Northern coast  of Camarines Sur
  • Northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes
  • Eastern coast of Albay
  • Eastern coast of Sorsogon
  • Northern and eastern Coasts of northern Samar
  • Eastern coast of Palawan
  • Antique

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said.
