LTO – NCR West Regional Director Roque Verzosa III noted that of the total figure, 213 motorists were apprehended for violating the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, with 99 who were issued tickets for motor vehicles operating with defective accessories, devices, equipment, and parts; 15 for failure to carry the official receipt and certificate of registration of the vehicle they’re driving; 14 for unauthorized motor vehicle modification; and 12 for unregistered vehicles.

LTO – NCR West likewise issued tickets to 11 motorists for driving wearing slippers; seven each for driving without a valid driver’s license and reckless driving; six for picking up and dropping off passengers where it is not allowed; five each for obstruction and failure to provide canvas cover to cargos or freight of trucks; and four each for allowing passengers on top or the cover of the vehicle and excess passengers, among others, he added.

Verzosa further noted that 89 motorists were apprehended for failing to strap on their prescribed seat belts and five others for failing to require the front passenger to wear their seat belts–all of which are violations of the Seat Belts Use Act of 1999.

At least 50 motorists, meanwhile, were caught violating the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009–41 riders who were not wearing their standard protective motorcycle helmet, and nine others for failing to require the back rider to likewise wear their helmet.

Three motorists were also apprehended for violating the Children’s Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015, according to Verzosa.

“Kailangan ipatupad ang batas trapiko at mga iba pang mga batas na nauugnay sa land transport upang sa ganun ay magkaroon ng kaayusan sa ating mga lansangan,” he reminded.

(We need to follow and implement traffic rules and other laws related to land transport to ensure order in our streets.)
