Student killed, 29 others hurt as jeep falls down 30-meter ravine in Quirino

SANTIAGO CITY — A student was killed and 29 others were injured after a passenger jeep lost its brakes and went straight into a 30-meter ravine in Diffun town in Quirino province on Friday, March 10, police said.

Police Captain Richard Angel, Diffun police’s deputy chief for operations, said that the passenger jeepney lost its brakes while maneuvering a curve and steep part of the road, causing it to fall into a 30-meter ravine in Barangay (village) Gregorio Pimentel at 10 p.m.

The name and age of the minor student who died, as well as the driver, were not disclosed by the police based on the Data Privacy Act.

The jeep was carrying around 42 passengers, most of them minor-aged students.

The family of the deceased student told the police that they will file a case of homicide due to reckless imprudence against the driver.
