DOJ prosecutors indict 7 fratmen tagged in Salilig鈥檚 death

DOJ prosecutors indict seven members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity who were linked to the death of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig.

MANILA, Philippines 鈥 Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors have indicted seven Tau Gamma Phi fraternity members who were linked to the death of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig.

They were also being indicted for the injuries sustained by Roi Osmond dela Cruz, a neophyte who was also purportedly subjected to the fraternity hazing.

The DOJ prosecutors specifically indicted Earl Anthony Osita Romero, Tung Cheng Benitez Ten, Jerome Ochoco Balot, Sandro Dasalla Victorino, Michael Lambert Alcazar Ricalde, Mark Mu帽oz Pedrosa, and Daniel delos Reyes Perry for Salilig鈥檚 death and dela Cruz鈥檚 injuries.

They will be facing cases for violating the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 before the Regional Trial Court of Bi帽an City in Laguna.

鈥淚n finding probable cause against the respondents, the panel explained in its resolution dated 13 March that all of the above-mentioned respondents planned and actually participated in hazing the recruits by way of paddling. The complainants were likewise able to establish that the injuries sustained by John Matthew Salilig led to his death,鈥 according to the briefer issued by the DOJ.

Two more complaints have been filed by several fratmen against their Tau Gamma Phi brothers, but DOJ prosecutors have yet to conduct a preliminary investigation on them.
