Village chief in Laguna held for illegal firearms

LUCENA CITY — Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives arrested on Monday, March 20, a barangay chairman in Bay town in Laguna province for illegal possession of firearms.

The Police Region 4A reported that CIDG operatives, armed with a search warrant, swooped down around 7 a.m. on the house of Angelito de Mesa, chief of Barangay Masaya.

The raiders seized a caliber 5.56mm (M16) rifle with telescope, suppressor, three magazines, and 85 bullets; one caliber .9mm machine pistol, a magazine and 20 bullets; one caliber .45 pistol, two magazines, and 15 bullets.
