MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol on Tuesday launched its 2nd Yamang Gubat Trade Fair to encourage sustainable use of forest resources for production and consumption throughout the region.
The event, which has the theme “Forest and Health,” aims to promote and support the sustainable practices and forest-related products of its partner stakeholders.
According to the DENR Bicol, the trade fair was in line with the celebration of International Day of the Forest held at Ayala Malls Legazpi where 14 local exhibitors attended.
Among the locally produced goods on display were handcrafted abaca and rattan products, furniture, wooden materials, cutleries, handicrafts, home décor, mats, novelty bamboo items, plants, pili, cacao, food items, citronella essential oils, dishwashing soap, repellent, moisturizer, and soaps.
In a statement, DENR Regional Executive Director Francisco Milla Jr. thanked all attendees and exhibitors for their assistance in promoting environmental protection and preservation.
“Forests are very generous and giving, but they are vulnerable. So, immediate actions for its conservation and protection should be our top priority. Together, let us build a safe and healthy environment for the present and future generations,” he said.
Milla likewise encouraged all stakeholders to support the growth and “continuity of a sustainable and resilient environment.” —Kimberly D. Albaño, trainee
