Manila Water now serves over 7.4 million customers

Manila Water’s customer base continues to expand, with 33,909 new water service connections installed in 2022. From 1997 to 2022, Manila Water has installed a total of 1,150,297 water service connections which translates to 7,460,705 customers.

MANILA, Philippines–Manila Water records a significant surge in new water connections amid the pandemic, expanding its total water service connections to 1,150,297 from August 1997 to December 2022.

The East Zone concessionaire said the new water services have resulted in a surge of Manila Water’s customer base to 7,460,705 customers by the end of 2022.

The company saw a boost in new connections in 2022, with 33,909 new water service connections installed, marking a 56% increase from the 21,680 new connections in 2021. With these new services, Manila Water’s customer base has expanded to 7,460,705 customers as of the end of 2022.

Manila Water attributes the growth to the gradual recovery of the economy following the easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Of the 33,909 new water service connections, 33,070 are domestic and 839 are commercial and industrial.

The company’s flagship program, “Tubig Para Sa Barangay” or Water for the Community, has completed more than 750 projects, providing uninterrupted water supply to the base-of-the-pyramid population in the East Zone. This has benefited about 2 million residents from low-income communities.

The company’s service improvement program also includes the expansion of its water coverage, particularly in the still-unserved towns of Rizal Province. As Phase 1 of the Wawa Calawis Water System Project has been completed, it is expected that more residents of the Antipolo area will have access to 24/7 water supply.

Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water corporate communication affairs group director, said: “For the past 25 years since the start of the concession, Manila Water has been implementing projects to further improve and expand our services, aligning all our initiatives from operations to customer service to achieve our major goal which is to provide clean and potable water supply available to all our customers 24/7.”
