3 rebels surrender to police in Zambales

OLONGAPO CITY — A high-ranking officer and two former members of a communist rebel group operating in Zambales province surrendered to government forces, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) said Monday, April 17.
Citing a report from Col. Ricardo Pangan, acting Zambales police provincial director, the PRO3 identified the rebel returnees as “Ka Lanta,” Ka Toyo” and “Ka Gomer.”
According to the PRO3, Ka Lanta, who served as an intelligence officer of the communist group,and the two others voluntarily surrendered to the police in Zambales.
The rebel returnees turned over a caliber 5.56 improvised pistol, a rifle grenade, and an improvised shotgun.
“The continuous surrender of active and former members of communist terrorist groups and the withdrawal of support of their allies leave a big impact on our campaign against local armed conflict,” said PRO3 director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr.
