MANILA, Philippines 鈥 The newly appointed chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Maj. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., said Tuesday that he has yet to draft a police force revamp plan.
Acorda stressed that policy, guidelines, merit, ability, and moral ascendancy would govern all acts.
鈥淓verything will be done based on the policy, guidelines, merit, ability, capability, and moral ascendancy. These are the basic qualifications (Standards of Professional Behaviour) that SOPB will set. The SOPB will be empowered to ensure no policies are violated and candidates scrutinized,鈥 Acorda said during his first press conference in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
鈥淏ut when it comes to revamp, wala pa tayo naiisip (we haven鈥檛 thought of anything yet), 鈥 he added.
Acorda also emphasized that the PNP will be aggressive in its operations. Lt. Gen. Rhodal Sermonia, the deputy chief for administration, will ensure adequate financial and logistical support for its lower units.
鈥淔or our regional directors and NSUS (National Support Units), we will make sure that they will be properly supported on the ground,鈥 the PNP chief said.
Acorda requested the DCA to supervise and ensure the proper allocation of funds, logistical support, and administrative requirements for lower units. He also sought assistance from the public, media, and LGUs in achieving a secure and crime-free community.
鈥淲e need the support of the community and the media and other LGUs. I want to take this opportunity to solicit your support to engage our community na magsumbong (to report to us if they witness any criminal activity),鈥 he said.
